The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is actively working on enhancing the training and technological exposure of match officials. FAZ President, Andrew Kamanga, emphasised the importance of modern technology in ensuring Zambia's presence at tournaments like the Africa Cup of Nations during the launch of the FIFA elite referees training course in Lusaka. He urged participants to maintain professionalism in officiating games and stressed FAZ's commitment to staying updated with advancements in the sport, including their recent trial of Video Assistant Refereeing (VAR) during the ABSA Cup final. Felix Tangawarima, the head of refereeing at Cosafa, played a significant role in implementing the VAR pilot project. FAZ aims to have more match officials trained in VAR to achieve their goal. They also seek to equip their Super League teams with Global Positioning System (GPS) equipment through FIFA. The participants were encouraged to focus on advancing their careers, with the goal of having Zambian match officials at major tournaments like the AFCON. Diana Chikotesha expressed concerns about the timing of the match officials course, suggesting that it should be held at the beginning of the league season to avoid risking the integrity of the game.
