The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) is uncertain whether the Copper Queens' two international friendly matches against Morocco on September 22 and 26 will proceed as planned, following the earthquake that struck the country's southwest on September 8, resulting in the deaths of at least 2,900 people and affecting 300,000. FAZ president Andrew Kamanga confirmed that the Copper Queens are currently in camp in Lusaka, preparing for the matches, but the decision to proceed or cancel lies with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). "The Copper Queens are in camp for back-to-back A-Class FIFA friendly matches against Morocco on September 22 and 26 in Rabat," Kamanga said in his weekly Presidential Corner column. "We are aware of the recent tragedy suffered by the people of Morocco and have left the decision regarding the fulfillment of the fixture with them. The matches are still scheduled, and our team is already in camp in Lusaka." Both teams hope to use the friendlies to prepare for the two legs of their 2024 Paris Olympic Qualifiers matches. Morocco will play Namibia on October 23 and 31, while Zambia will face Mali on the same dates. However, the earthquake has raised doubts about whether the matches will take place. Morocco's senior men's national team had to cancel their AFCON Qualifiers match against Liberia on September 9, but they did play an international friendly against Burkina Faso three days later. Copper Queens coach Bruce Mwape is also focusing on assembling the team that will participate in the regional COSAFA tournament from October 4 to 15 in South Africa. Zambia has been drawn into Group B alongside Comoros, Mozambique, and Angola. Whether the Copper Queens' friendlies against Morocco will proceed remains to be seen, but FAZ has stated that it will respect the FRMF's decision.
