Football fans in Solwezi District are calling on the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to swiftly complete the rehabilitation of the Solwezi Independence Stadium. Their plea comes after FAZ engaged a contractor to commence the stadium's rehabilitation eleven months ago but later abandoned the construction works, leaving the facility in disrepair. Frustrated football fans in the district have voiced their concerns, highlighting the impact the incomplete stadium has had on their beloved sport. They lament the absence of home games, as the local team, Kansanshi Dynamos Football Club, was forced to play the entire 2022-2023 football season away from their home ground. Mayor Remy Kalepa of Solwezi expressed his disappointment, emphasizing that the lack of proper infrastructure at the stadium adversely affects the performance of football teams in the district. The absence of a suitable training ground hampers the development and preparation of local players, hindering their ability to compete at a higher level. In response to the mounting pressure, FAZ President Andrew Kamanga assured the football community that the association is taking necessary measures to ensure the completion of the stadium rehabilitation before the start of the next season. Kamanga acknowledged the significance of a functional stadium in the development of football in Solwezi and pledged FAZ's commitment to resolving the situation promptly.
