Zambia's U17 football team is gearing up for a crucial match against Group B leaders Morocco in the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Saturday. The team suffered their second defeat in the group after a 3-2 loss against COSAFA rivals South Africa, and their hopes of advancing to the quarter-finals now depend on whether they can secure a victory against Morocco and hope the game between Nigeria and South Africa doesn't end in a draw. To progress to the last eight, Zambia must finish as one of the best two third-placed teams. Coach Ian Bakala knows that his team will need to give their all if they hope to win against the Atlas Cubs. "I think we have a high chance of beating Morocco. Most likely they will come underrating us and change the team but we are not relying on that. We have to go there and win the game. It is a do-or-die match," Bakala said. Zambia's loss to South Africa was a painful one, but Bakala is determined to focus on the team's upcoming match against Morocco. "With the way the game was going, we didn’t expect to lose. We conceded a very soft goal but we must put this behind our backs and try to focus on Morocco," he said. Reflecting on the South Africa match, Bakala made some tactical changes to give his side more balance. "We had started the game with two defensive midfielders and with the changes we made, we removed one. It gave us more strength in attack because after that we attacked more and created more chances," he explained. Zambia is making its second appearance at the tournament, having last competed in 2015 when they were eliminated at the group stages. Bakala and his team will be hoping for a different outcome this time around and will be giving their all to secure a place in the quarter-finals. PICTURE -FAZ
