Zambia has decided to withdraw from the 2023 Kenya Safari Sevens rugby tournament, citing a scheduling conflict with the Independence Challenge taking place this weekend. Zambia Rugby Union general secretary, Cecelia Tresha, explained that the focus is on supporting the Independence Challenge, emphasizing the importance of local events for rugby development in Zambia. Despite expressing a desire to be part of the Safari Sevens and acknowledging its significance, the priority remains on the domestic competition, where the winning team stands to earn K20,000.
