With less than 10 days until the Africa Netball Cup in Botswana scheduled for 26th November to 6th December 2023, Netball Zambia has released a statement urgently seeking K234,000 to ensure the participation of its women's and men's national teams. President Martha Lungu-Sichone has warned of possible withdrawal if the financial deficit persists. She said almost half of the budget has been covered by two sponsors, one arranging a chartered plane and another contributing K100,000,however, without the remaining funds, sending both teams to the continental showpiece is at risk Facing a lack of government funds, the Federation is turning to the corporate sector for support. Sichone emphasized the urgency, stating, "We don't have much time left before the tournament, and government funding is unavailable." Despite financial challenges, both national teams have been in a nonresidential camp for the past two weeks to prepare for the competition. Sichone expressed optimism but noted the potential consequences as failure to participate could result in a fine of £5000. The University of Botswana (UB) Indoor Sports Arena will host the competition, with nearly 24 countries expected to participate.
