Senegal U17 staged a remarkable comeback to claim a thrilling 2-1 victory over Morocco in the final of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The historic triumph took place last night at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers. Morocco took the lead in the 14th minute through their captain, Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal. The score remained unchanged until the 79th minute when Serigne Falou Diouf converted a penalty awarded after a VAR review. Just four minutes later, Sawane rose above the Moroccan defense to head home the winning goal, completing a hard-fought turnaround for the Senegalese team, known as the Teranga Cubs. This victory marked Senegal's first-ever U17 AFCON title and added to their recent string of continental successes. In the past four months alone, Senegal has secured three consecutive continental titles. Their locally-based players triumphed in the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in February, also held at the Nelson Mandela Stadium. In March, the team claimed the U20 AFCON title in Egypt. The senior national team kicked off the impressive run of dominance by winning the AFCON 2021 crown in February. Later in the year, they clinched the AFCON Beach Soccer title, solidifying their position as champions across all men's national football competitions on the continent. The second half saw Senegal start strongly, with Mamadou Sadio narrowly missing a chance just 45 seconds into the half. Morocco had an opportunity of their own when Maali struck a shot from the edge of the box, but it sailed wide. Senegal's remarkable turnaround came in the 76th minute when Moroccan captain Ait Boudlal was penalized for handling the ball inside the box. After consulting the pitch-side monitor, the referee awarded Senegal a penalty, which Serigne confidently converted. With this victory, Senegal has asserted its dominance in men's football across the continent, completing a remarkable sweep of all national football competitions. 🏆 2021 AFCON 🏆 2022 Beach Soccer AFCON 🏆 2023 CHAN 🏆 2023 U20 AFCON 🏆 2023 U17 AFCON
