On July 19th, 2023, the Judo Association of Zambia's General Secretary, Mabvuto Ng’uni, and Administrative Director, Carol Chipupu, took charge of spearheading the Tripartite Regional for Peace judo program. The dedicated leaders held a crucial meeting with representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Internal Security Commission of Refugees, as well as the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The primary objective of the program is to create safe and equitable opportunities for refugees to participate in judo, thereby contributing to the growth and development of the judo for peace program in the region and beyond. The meeting focused on comprehending the rationale behind the Regional for Peace judo program and presenting the action plan and result framework for the next five years. The program's scope involves three countries: Malawi, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, with specific roles and responsibilities assigned to each country. The outcome of the meeting was to establish a feasible and sustainable approach for the Judo for Peace regional program in collaboration with all stakeholders. Mr. Ng’uni, representing JAZ, expressed gratitude to the Ministry for allowing the Association to enter the refugee camps and introduce judo in those communities. He also extended appreciation to the UNHCR for their unwavering support of the Association's endeavors. This initiative holds the promise of fostering peace and unity through judo, as it reaches out to refugees, providing them with a sense of belonging, skill development, and a platform for positive engagement. With the collaborative efforts of JAZ and the involved parties, the future of the Judo for Peace regional program looks bright, aiming to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those seeking refuge.
