In a recent report by Crown TV Zambia, Kangwa Chileshe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Sports, has disclosed that Levy Mwanawasa Stadium is currently not suitable for hosting international games. Chileshe revealed that the upcoming match against Ivory Coast on June 17th will be the last international game to be played at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium, as the turf requires replacement. According to Chileshe, both the National Heroes Stadium and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium have exceeded their intended lifespan of 10 years. Consequently, the Ministry of Sports has decided to initiate renovation projects for both stadiums to ensure their continued functionality and compliance with international standards. The Permanent Secretary emphasized the need for local contractors to be prepared, as the ministry intends to call for bids soon for the renovation projects of both stadia. This presents an opportunity for local construction companies to participate in these significant infrastructure developments within the sports sector. The decision to renovate both the National Heroes Stadium and Levy Mwanawasa Stadium underscores the government's commitment to providing state-of-the-art sporting facilities in Zambia. These renovations aim to enhance the spectator experience and provide athletes with top-notch facilities to showcase their talents. Details regarding the scope of the renovations and the expected timeline for completion were not disclosed in the report. However, the Ministry of Sports is taking proactive steps to ensure that these stadiums meet the required standards for hosting national and international sporting events.
