In a significant move to advance sports development in Zambia, the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), led by President Alfred Foloko, recently paid a courtesy visit to Honourable Elvis Nkandu, MP, the Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts. The meeting aimed to foster understanding, address policy concerns, and establish collaboration to enhance the sports landscape. The primary focus of the meeting was to introduce Minister Nkandu to NOCZ's responsibilities and scope, including discussions on technical and policy matters relevant to both the Ministry and NOCZ. The Minister expressed gratitude for NOCZ's engagement, emphasising their shared commitment to a thriving sports ecosystem. Minister Nkandu stressed NOCZ's pivotal role in advocating for sports development aligned with government objectives. He encouraged NOCZ to continue supporting the government's mission through capacity-building initiatives for national sports federations and addressing governance challenges. The Minister also unveiled the Ministry's dedication to exploring funding avenues for nationwide sports infrastructure development and talent identification. Both parties agreed to formulate a comprehensive policy framework to guide their collaboration in sports development strategies. Minister Nkandu praised ongoing sports administrator training and highlighted a Memorandum of Understanding between DMI-St Eugene University and the Ministry, offering scholarships for youth and those in sports and arts programs. With the Paris 2024 Olympic Games approaching, he reaffirmed the government's support for Team Zambia. To ensure ongoing collaboration, Minister Nkandu proposed regular meetings between NOCZ and the Ministry, with the frequency to be determined through mutual agreement. NOCZ President Alfred Foloko expressed gratitude to Minister Nkandu for engaging with the NOCZ Board. He recognized the Ministry's efforts in spearheading nationwide sports development. The meeting included Vice President Hazel Kennedy, Secretary General Boniface Kambikambi, and esteemed Board Members, including Dickson Jere, Daisy Kopolo, Mutale Masala, and Rodrick Ndhlovu, who also serves as Chef De Mission for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
