Chipolopolo captain Lubambo Musonda is confident and in good shape as he prepares to face Ivory Coast in a crucial 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Musonda suffered a muscle injury during the match against Lesotho in March, forcing him to miss the return fixture in Johannesburg. However, he has now recovered and is ready to lead the Zambian national team in their quest for qualification. Musonda expressed his readiness and determination to secure a victory against Ivory Coast, which would guarantee Zambia's qualification with a game to spare. Ivory Coast previously defeated Zambia 3-1 in Yamoussoukro in June 2022. Currently, Ivory Coast leads Group H with 10 points, followed closely by Zambia with 9 points. The Comoros Islands sit in third place with 3 points, while Lesotho remains at the bottom with just one point. With only one team set to qualify from the group due to Ivory Coast's automatic qualification as hosts, the upcoming match against Ivory Coast is of utmost importance for Zambia. Chipolopolo coach Avram Grant has included Musonda in his 29-man provisional squad for the June 17 clash, emphasizing the significance of his return to the team. The Zambian national team aims to secure a spot in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations finals, scheduled to take place in January next year.
