Sunday, 4th May 2023, Zambia Pool Union Unveiled the national team Provisional squad which will play the next series of matches before the final squad is selected. Speaking during the ZPU press briefing which was conducted yesterday at Billards Café in Lusaka, ZPU has announced a total number of 30 men and a 25-member squad segmented across 6 Provinces in the country. ZPU general secretary Mr.Tesfa Shinkombwe said that this year looks very promising for them because it is where our men and women will be going to South Africa to defend the Africa Cup title. "The coaches are ready and they have disclosed that the final list is inclusive with it having being segmented over 5 provinces who are so eager to represent the country," Tesfa has said. The teams will thereafter Participant in the inaugural Holy Cup, an international tournament which is organized by Blackball International and will feature countries such as the USA, Australia, Uganda, South Africa, and Scotland among others. In an interview with Zed Sport, Mr. Tesfa disclosed that Holy Cup will come after a few days after the Africa Cup being hosted by South Africa in October, this year. Mr. Tesfa further narrated that the national trials began with various having their local trials having their tryouts and they finally sent the best representatives from their provinces. "As opposed to the past, it is so pleasing that our coaches and the entire executive did their very best in ensuring that all the Provinces are included in the provisional national squad," He added. Meanwhile, some of the players who made it to the men's provisional squad as announced by the Men's team Coach, Mr. Lenard M include Victory Sinyinza, Chileshe Mubanga from Lusaka Province, Dickson Mutale, Loyd Chungu, Misheck Phiri from Copperbelt Province, Elias Miti from Eastern Province, Innocent from Meleki Kapiri and Mike Lungu from Mazabuka Southern Province among others. The women's team Coach Bongani Maano has announced players who made it to the final squad as follows: Chabota Hamoonga from the Southern Province, Josephine K Nakubaya from Eastern Province, Chimwemwe Mwale from Lusaka, Rashida Mulenga from the Copperbelt among others. After a series of matches and Competitions, the teams will be treated 12 members squared which will act as the final team to represent the country in South Africa for the Africa Cup title.
