Zambia Under 17 national team set to participate at the upcoming Algeria Totalenergies Under-17 AFCON starting this month suffered a 4-1defeat in a friendly against Napsa Stars football club today. Speaking after the match Napsa Stars head coach Perry Mutapa said that he was impressed with the quality of football that was displayed by the junior chipolopolo against his side regardless of the results. The character exhibited by the boys shows that they have the Quality to deliver, he said. “I think a very good game of football, from the lads [ the u17 national team ] as a coach for Napsa as a Zambian, i think am very happy from what I saw it was a competitive match the results yes we won 4-1. what I wanted to see is the character from the u17 I think I saw that they showed it with the way they played they scored one and forced some saves from our keeper.” Mutapa is confident that the under-17 national team can do well at the Afcon tournament if they can just replicate the display they showed against his side. He, however, emphasized the need to avoid playing names and rather just look at each encounter as 11v11 regardless of who the opponents are. Mutapa says that the team has quality players who can compete and aim to qualify for the world cup. “From what they have shown I think it's about the quality of players that you have. If we go there and do not play games without fear of Nigeria or Morocco but just play our game as 11 vs 11. The most important thing is to compete and qualify for the world cup.” Zambia will play Senegal and Guinea as preparatory matches before the start of the tournament on April 29th.
