Golf Development Manager for the Royal & Ancient (R&A) in Africa, Eden Thompson, held a meeting with Boniface Kambikambi, the Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ). Accompanied by Edward Phiri, the General Secretary of the Zambia Golf Union (ZGU), Thompson engaged in a knowledge-sharing session. Thompson's visit primarily aimed to evaluate progress within the ZGU and the development of amateur golfers who received training sponsored by the R&A. Kambikambi also shed light on NOCZ's activities, emphasizing its role in working with affiliated national federations like ZGU. He discussed initiatives like the Safe Sport Single Point of Contact (SPOC) training, which the R&A Manager commended for ensuring athletes' safety and promoting golf at the grassroots level. NOCZ plays a crucial role in empowering local coaches and overseeing sports federations, making collaboration with the R&A essential for high-performance development programs and identifying local talent. This initiative aims to promote inclusivity and contribute to the overall growth of Zambia's golfing talent. During his visit, Thompson is scheduled to meet with key stakeholders to assess Zambia's potential to host international golf tournaments. The discussion also touched upon golf's inclusion in the Olympic Games, with Zambia aspiring to participate in the Olympic golf competition by 2032.
