The Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) and another national federation recently obtained membership in the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ). In a recent interview, NOCZ caught up with Edward Phiri, the General Secretary of ZGU, who shared his thoughts on the 4th NOCZ Seminar for General Secretaries, which he attended on behalf of his federation. Phiri expressed that the seminar significantly contributed to enhancing the roles of General Secretaries, highlighting their responsibilities as chief executives of various sports departments and their influence over events within the Federation. He praised the seminar for its high value, interactivity, and inclusiveness, stressing that they maintained an open approach, particularly within the Zambia Golf Union, where they welcomed a diverse range of participants. Phiri emphasized their commitment to sharing knowledge, underscoring the idea that shared knowledge equates to knowledge gained. He noted that they derived substantial insights from fellow General Secretaries. Additionally, he drew inspiration from a coaches' development program, identifying a shortage of golf coaches in their sector. He mentioned his efforts to encourage qualification for specific golf coaching levels. Phiri also discussed his success in approaching the Olympic Committee to discuss golf coaching program development, which received support from the SG. Phiri's belief in the potential for improvement in coaching and the support of young golfers was evident. He emphasized the significance of collaboration and communication to advance the sport of golf, emphasizing that no sport was insignificant, as all sports held importance for health and social interaction.
