The National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ) is happy with the Zambia U-18 National team for proudly claiming Bronze Medal at the 2023 Baseball5 African Youth Championships which was recently held in Ghana. The team showcased their skills with an impressive record of 6 wins out of 8 in the Round Robin stage. Although they suffered a defeat against the host country Ghana, they bounced back and emerged victorious against South Africa, securing the third-place finish. While Zambia may not have secured a spot in the World Championships, Ken Matishi, the General Secretary of the Zambia Baseball & Softball Association, remains optimistic about the future. He recognizes the immense potential and talent among the youth throughout the country. Matishi hopes that various institutions will open their doors to support the association, enabling them to develop and nurture talent. "The recent success achieved by these athletes, who were identified through the Development of National Sports System Programme supported by the National Olympic Committee of Zambia (NOCZ), serves as a testament to what can be accomplished, NOCZ has disclosed. The formidable Team Zambia consisted of skilled individuals such as David Kalunga, Sunday Kangongo, Kakumbi Kakumbi, Selina Band, Rita Natanje, Catherine Chitani, Margret Phiri, and Siame Mwelwa. The team was expertly coached by Kunda Mwila. Host countries Ghana and Tunisia claimed the Gold and Silver Medals, respectively, thereby securing qualification for the World Youth Championships. "Heartfelt congratulations to Team Zambia for their outstanding performance," NOCZ has added.
