Trident Football Club secured their place in the highly competitive MTN SUPER LEAGUE for the 2023/24 season with a spectacular 8-goal thriller against Atletico Lusaka Football Club over the weekend. The FAZ national division one side became the first team to confirm their place in the top tier of Zambian Football, following the failures of the City of Lusaka, Kafue Eagles, and Young Green Buffaloes to win their respective matches. With qualification confirmed, Trident shifted their focus to winning the league, and they proved their mettle on Sunday in a thrilling encounter against Atletico. The match took place in the capital city of Lusaka at the Toyota Sports Complex. Atletico got off to a flying start, with striker Kingston Mutandwa scoring just 5 minutes into the match. However, Trident quickly regained their composure and scored four goals before the half-time break, taking the tie to 4-1. After the restart, Atletico struggled to settle into the match, and Trident took advantage, increasing their lead to 5-1 in the 54th minute, with Walaza Tembo completing his hat-trick after scoring two goals in the first half. Despite Atletico's efforts to make a comeback, Trident proved too strong and too experienced, with the majority of Atletico's players below the age of 20. Atletico could only manage to score two more goals in the second half, resulting in a final score of 5-3 in favor of Trident. Trident's impressive performance in the match and their qualification to the MTN SUPER LEAGUE marks a significant achievement for the team and a momentous occasion for Zambian football. Fans can look forward to an exciting season ahead as Trident seeks to make its mark in the top tier of Zambian football. Picture file-Trident FC
