Wedson Nyirenda will start his second stint as Zanaco head coach with a trip to a familiar place when they visit Ndola to face ZESCO United this weekend. Nyirenda will be facing his former team on Saturday as he returns to the Zambia Super League after a year and seven months of absence. The former Chipolopolo coach led Zega Mambo to a League and Cup double between 2007 and 2008. The Bankers confirmed the appointment of the former Kaizer Chiefs player as interim head coach until the end of the season on Monday. Nyirenda takes over from Kelvin Kaindu and Consultant Emmanuel Amunike who were sacked after a string of poor results. Nyirenda will have the task of keeping the Seven-time Super League Champions in the top flight as the threat of relegation looms at Sunset Stadium. After the trip to Ndola, Zanaco will host Kansanshi Dynamos before visiting Godfrey Ucar Chitalu Stadium to face Kabwe Warriors. The 2016 Zambia Super League Champions will host relegated Buildcon next before finishing the season with two away games against giant killers, FC MUZA, and title-chasing Green Buffaloes. Nyirenda is a serial winner, In 2015 he led Ferroviario to their first trophy in 95 years of history. It wasn’t just in Mozambique but also in South Africa where he propelled Premier Soccer League Baroka to the Telkom Knockout Challenge in 2018. In 2021 he led Lusaka Dynamos to their first ABSA Cup title.
