Despite needing just a point from the remaining two matches to qualify for the 2023 Ivory Coast Africa Cup of Nations, Chipolopolo captain Lubambo Musonda says they will aim to reap maximum points and finish top of Group H. Musonda was speaking from his base in Denmark that the six-point difference with Comoros Islands is not enough to make the players relax because anything is possible in football. On Tuesday, Ivory Coast handed Zambia a huge advantage after beating Comoros Islands 2-0 in Moroni. This means the Chipolopolo only need a point to return to the continental showpiece after an eight-year absence. Leaders Ivory Coast have 10 points, one ahead of Zambia, while Comoros sits on three points and bottom-placed Lesotho has a point. "The six-point difference with Comoros is good, but we need to remain focused as the job is far from being done," Musonda said. He said finishing top will give the Chipolopolo confidence ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations finals to be played in January next year. Zambia will host Ivory Coast on June 12 and conclude the qualifying series with an away tie to Comoros on September 4. "We aim to finish top and we will end at nothing than fight for every point in the remaining Qualify games. Qualifiers are part of preparations for the Africa Cup finals and finishing top will give us a lot of confidence," Musonda said. He urged his teammates not to relax after collecting six points off Lesotho. "The full points we collected from Lesotho were a huge boost after we started the qualifiers on a low note. We now need to work as a team and not be big-headed after the big wins," Musonda said. Meanwhile, Musonda is expected to undergo a scan to ascertain the extent of his injury. Musonda, who features for Danish Club AC Horsens, sustained an injury in Zambia's 3-1 win over Lesotho at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola. 📸FAZ
