German Football Association (DFB) Vice President Ralph-Uwe Schaffer is confident that the Copper Queens of Zambia have the potential to make a strong impact at the upcoming 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup, set to commence in just nine days. Schaffer noted the improvements made by the Copper Queens since their qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games and believes they can be one of the tournament's surprise teams. During a gift exchange event following a sold-out friendly match between Zambia and Germany at Sportpark Ronhof Thomas Sommer, Schaffer expressed his optimism, saying, "Zambia has qualified for the World Championships (World Cup) for the first time. Not an easy group with Spain, Costa Rica, and Japan but they may surprise many teams." Dorcus Chileshe, the Acting Head of Mission at the Zambian Embassy in Berlin, also praised the Copper Queens' progress and emphasized the importance of showcasing their experience on the world stage. The Copper Queens have now settled in Hamilton, New Zealand, where they will compete in Group C matches against Japan and Costa Rica at the Waikato Stadium with a capacity of 16,200. Their final group game against Spain will be held at the Aotearoa New Zealand national stadium, Eden Park, which can accommodate 40,500 spectators.
