In a historic moment for Zambian women's football, Elite Ladies Football Club striker Xiomara Mapepa has become the first player in the country's Super League history to win two golden boots in a row. Mapepa's incredible feat was achieved in the just-ended 2022/23 seasons, where she scored an impressive 28 goals from 29 games. The talented forward had already won the prestigious award in the previous season after netting 17 goals in the 15 games she played. However, the competition was tougher this time around, with Mapepa having to fend off stiff competition from her national teammate Ochumba Oseke Lubanji and Maylan Mulenga of back-to-back champions Green Buffaloes Ladies FC. Oseke Lubanji scored 26 goals this campaign for Red Arrows Ladies FC, while Mulenga found the back of the net 23 times, including the crucial goal that helped Green Buffaloes Ladies FC defend their title. Despite the competition, Mapepa managed to finish at the top of the scoring charts, cementing her status as one of the most lethal strikers in the league. It's worth noting that Mapepa's role in the team had changed from being a winger to a target forward, a move that paid dividends for her and her club. Picture Elite Ladies Football Club
