The Copper Queens quartet claimed their first medals in Kazakhstan on Wednesday in the Women’s Cup, with midfielder Ireen Lungu leading the way with a brace to secure a 3-0 win for BIIK Kazyugurt Shymkent over Okzhetpes. The Cup featured four teams competing in a round-robin format, with Kazyugurt finishing at the top of the group with nine points, ahead of Tomoris Turan. Defender Martha Tembo and striker Hellen Chanda were also key players in the match. This victory marks Shymkent’s 12th title in the last 13 years and 13th overall Cup title. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Catherine Musonda kept a clean sheet for her new team, Turan, who secured a 5-0 win over SDYuSShOR 17 to finish second and earn the silver medal in the Kazakhstan Women’s Cup. Making her debut for the team after joining earlier this month, Musonda’s performance was an impressive start to her time at Turan. The team finished second to BIIK Kazyugurt Shymkent with six points from three games.
