Lombe Mutale, a former Chipolopolo U17 and now Chipolopolo under 20 right back, was recently promoted from Young Power Dynamos Football Club to the senior Power Dynamos FC squad. Mutale, 18, is the third born in a family of four and resides in Chamboli Township. The young emerging defender started his football career with Power Dynamos Under 14 Academy in 2017 before he was elevated to the club under 17 setup in 2018. Thenimble-footed full back is particularly known for his pace, enthusiastic and overlapping attacking runs amplified by his ability to deliver pinpoint curling crosses into the 18-yard box. Consistent jaw-dropping performances then paved way for his promotion into the Young Power Under 20 setup. The young energetic star of the future went on to command a starting berth with much vigor and would impress any eye at first glance. Mutale attended Twashuka Combined School in Chamboli where he completed his Secondary School Education and attained a Grade 12 certificate, passing with flying colors. He has indicated an interest in pursuing tertiary Education alongside his budding and promising Football career. The yellow wonder kid received his first national team call-up after being entrusted to play for Chipolopolo under 17 in 2019 by then-head coach, George Chilufya, under whom the agile defender claimed his first Gold medal at the COSAFA tournament in Malawi. Mutale's second stint with the young Chipolopolo squad ended with an under-17 COSAFA Silver medal after emerging runners-up to their Bafana Bafana equals. This granted the boys automatic qualification to the under-17 AFCON which was scheduled to take place in Morocco, but the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic forced the organizers to cancel the tournament. In addition to being an assist provider, Mutale is also good at all-round-marking contributions, creating chances, and scoring goals with utmost accuracy and precision on the right flank. These fine attributes among others, enabled the Chipolopolo under 20 technical bench to promote the defensive genius to tighten the backline. At the under 20 COSAFA tournament held in Eswatini in 2022, Mutale made important assists before going on to score one of the deciders to win the tournament. This gifted the young chipolopolo boys another important ticket to the AFCON tournament which was held in February this year in Egypt. Sadly, the young lads could not progress beyond the group stage of that tournament. Lombe Mutale joins another pool of Young Power Dynamos players promoted to the senior team taking after the likes of Joshua Mutale, Fredrick and Jackson Mulambia, Stanley Lwamba, Emmanuel Kunda, Stephen Mwaba, and Linos Makwaza junior. Others include Changwe Shikilwa, and Reagan Mtonga who are currently on loan at Chambishi FC and Konkola Blades FC, respectively. Lombe Mutale's Premier League debut came in week 29 when Faustin Bakodila was forced out in the 83rd minute against Chambishi FC, and immediately sent the Arthur Davies Stadium crowd into a frenzy after producing some scintillating flashes of his brilliance on and off the ball. Remember the name: Lombe Mutale.
