The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has taken official action after Zambia's under-17 side was controversially eliminated from the Africa Cup of Nations by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). FAZ Acting General Secretary, Iva Lengwe, has written to CAF seeking an explanation for the decision to rule Zambia out of the competition. Lengwe said that Football House is inquiring about the process and criteria CAF used to reach the decision. FAZ has requested that CAF provide a detailed explanation of the reasoning behind their decision. Once FAZ has received this explanation, they will decide whether or not to appeal the ruling. Zambia's under-17 team beat Morocco 2-1, which should have secured their progression to the next round of the competition. However, CAF controversially ruled that South Africa would progress instead, despite having an inferior goal difference to Zambia. The decision has been met with disappointment and frustration from Zambian fans and officials alike. FAZ's decision to challenge the ruling demonstrates its commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent process is followed in the competition. It remains to be seen how CAF will respond to FAZ's inquiry, and whether they will provide a satisfactory explanation for their decision.
