Yesterday marked a historic moment for Zambian football as the country hosted its first-ever Chipolopolo Winning Stars exhibition match against the Barcelona Legends at Heroes Stadium in Lusaka. The event garnered tremendous support from fans, and the Local Organizing Committee has expressed plans to organize another significant game before the year concludes. Jacqueline Chishimba, Chairperson of the Committee, acknowledged the massive support from the fans and emphasized the importance of treating them to more matches of similar magnitude regularly. Chishimba stated, "The way the fans turned up shows how much Zambia loves football, and stakeholders will make every effort to maintain this momentum." In an impressive display of skill and teamwork, the Zambia Legends defeated the Barcelona Legends with a resounding 3-0 victory. The goals were scored by James Chamanga, Clifford Mulenga, and Collins Mbesuma. Notably, the legendary Kalusha Bwalya, who played a pivotal role in Zambian football history, featured in the entire second half and provided an assist for the third goal. Bwalya, now 60 years old, served as the President of the Football Association of Zambia at the time of Zambia's triumphant AFCON trophy win in 2012. Chishimba took the opportunity to express gratitude towards the government, King of Africa Sports, and other sponsors for their support in making the match a resounding success, despite the limitations in terms of human and financial resources. The Chipolopolo Winning Stars exhibition match not only showcased the rich footballing heritage of Zambia but also demonstrated the passion and enthusiasm of the fans. It served as a reminder of the nation's love for the beautiful game and the commitment of stakeholders to provide more opportunities for such captivating events in the future.
