Aime Mabika, a promising Zambian defender, showcased his talent during a recent Major League Soccer match, playing the full 90 minutes in a thrilling 0-0 draw against the New York Red Bulls. This performance comes after his transfer from Inter Miami, a club based in the United States, to Toronto FC, a Canadian team that competes in the USA's Major League Soccer as a member of the Eastern Conference. Since joining Toronto FC on April 24th of this year, Mabika has made four appearances for his new club. Out of these, one was in the Canadian Championship, while the remaining three were in the USA's Major League Soccer. The towering Zambian defender has been gradually acclimating himself to the competitive North American football scene. While Mabika's career has been flourishing on the club front, his journey with the Zambian national team has encountered a hurdle. He was called up to represent his country in the back-to-back AFCON qualifiers against Lesotho. Unfortunately, Mabika was unable to join the squad as his Zambian passport had not been issued to him. Despite the Minister of Sports announcing that the passport was ready just three days before the match in Ndola, Mabika and the Zambian football fans are eagerly awaiting an update on the progress of his passport issuance. Zambia is set to host Ivory Coast next month in another crucial AFCON qualifiers match, and Mabika's availability would greatly bolster the national team's defense. Regrettably, no official statements have been released by the Ministry of Sports or the Football Association of Zambia regarding the status of Mabika's passport issue since the Lesotho encounter earlier this year. The silence has left fans and supporters in a state of uncertainty. The hope is that this bureaucratic matter will be resolved promptly so that Mabika can represent his country on the international stage. Mabika made his unofficial debut for Zambia in a friendly match against Congo on March 22nd, 2022. In that game, Zambia emerged victorious with a commanding 3-1 win. While an official debut for his country still eludes him.
