Nkole Matanga, known as Mboma, the dedicated captain of Zambia's National Pool Team, is leaving no room for doubt – Zambia isn't merely participating; they're aiming to leave a lasting impact on the African continent at the Hawley Cup and African Championships in South Africa. Alongside Chipoka Mutande, affectionately known as Chipo, who leads the ladies' team, Zambia is making its intentions clear from the outset. Matanga, a seasoned player who clinched the African championships in the singles category back in 2017, brings invaluable experience to the table. His mission is to inspire and motivate Zambia's pool players to achieve greatness on the African stage. With Zambia currently holding the title of defending African champions, following their triumph in hosting the African championships last year at OYDC in Lusaka, and ranking 2nd in the world after the Morocco world championships, there are high expectations. Under the seasoned leadership of Nkole Matanga, the team is aiming for nothing less than excellence. The ladies' team, guided by Captain Chipoka Mutande, who secured a commendable 3rd place in the world, is equally determined to make their mark in the African championships. The roster of players representing Zambia spans various categories, with notable names including Moses Mofya, Victor Sinyinza, Royd Kabwe, Kelvin Nkandu, Kelvin Phiri, Stephen Banda, Derrick Zimba, John Kasongo, Chileshe Mubanga, Dickson Mutale, Kelvin Yenga Yenga, and more for the Men's team. The Ladies' team features talents like Malambo Mweene, Theresa Chileshe, Prisca Mtawali, Mercy Phiri, and several others. Zambia is also dispatching teams in the Under 23 and Masters categories, signifying their commitment to nurturing young talents and honoring experienced players. Acknowledging the support they've received, especially from the Zambian government, Zambia Pool Union (ZPU) extends its gratitude to President Hakainde Hichilema and the Ministry of Sport for their unwavering backing, which made their participation in the previous World Cup Championships in Morocco possible. The National Sport Council also deserves commendation for their tireless support. As preparations for the upcoming event in South Africa intensify, ZPU's Executive Committee is calling for financial support and more to ensure the team's logistical and amenity needs are met. Pool, as a growing sport, is in search of funding opportunities, making it an excellent platform for corporate entities and partners to showcase their support for a sport with immense potential. ZPU calls upon all well-wishers, corporate partners, and the entire Zambian nation to rally behind the teams and provide the support needed for their seamless and successful journey to South Africa. As they step onto the international stage, Zambia's pool players carry the hopes and aspirations of a nation, and with support from all quarters, they aim to make Zambia proud.
