The Zambia Women's Hockey Team achieved their most significant World Cup triumph by overpowering hosts Oman 11-3 to secure their first win at the tournament and a remarkable 15th-place finish at the 2024 Hockey 5s World Cup Muscat, Oman. Having faced defeats in their initial five matches, Zambia entered today's contest exclusively competing for 15th and 16th positions against winless Oman in the prestigious competition. The team swiftly seized the lead with Lusaka Sharks' midfielder Loveness Mudenda netting in the first minute and ultimately scoring two more goals. Carol Nakombe, Zambia's latest talent exported to Italy, then took command, scoring an impressive six goals. Annie Mvula and Ireen Mulenga also marked their debut goals. Reflecting on the victory, Coach Chomba expressed, "This is an amazing experience for us, we have learnt alot of lessons from this tournament especially that we got a chance to play and watch some of the World's top ranked Hockey teams in action, we will definitely go back home with lots of positives." This win serves as a crucial morale boost for the team, shifting their focus to upcoming challenges, including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
