In an electrifying showdown, twelve teams, including the defending champions Red Arrows, will gather tomorrow to compete for glory at the Mopani Copper Mines Sevens championship. The highly anticipated event is slated to take place at the Nkana West Rugby Fields in Kitwe. Referred to as the Francis Mwila Diggers Sevens, this one-day tournament has garnered participation from all National Rugby League teams, with the exception of Chibuluma and Kansanshi Dragons. In a recent interview, Diggers chairman Brian Musonda affirmed that all preparations have been meticulously arranged for the successful execution of the tournament. The event has generated immense excitement, particularly due to the engagement of six women's teams. Among the women's teams vying for victory are the reigning champions, Leopardess, along with Arrows, Green Eagles, Green Buffaloes, Konkola/Nchanga, and Diggers. The tournament holds special significance as it honors the legacy of Francis Mwila, a distinguished figure in the rugby world. A former player, coach, and chairman of Diggers, Mwila's contribution to the sport is being celebrated with this spirited competition.
