Amidst a backdrop of successful injury treatment, the participation of sprinter Muzala Samukonga in the imminent World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, hangs in the balance. Meanwhile, the qualification of 400 meters runners Niddy Mingilishi and Patrick Nyambe has been nullified, setting a challenging course for Zambia's athletic representation. Scheduled to commence on 20th August, the World Athletics Championships beckon, but Samukonga's presence remains uncertain. The Zambia Athletics (ZA) general secretary, Davison Mung'ambata, revealed that a proficient physiotherapist from the United Kingdom has been enlisted to conduct the conclusive evaluation of Samukonga's condition. Speaking from Germany on Saturday, Samukonga expressed his contentment over completing the treatment regimen and has placed his trust in a higher power to guide his recovery journey. The hamstring injury, incurred during a Diamond League race in Poland the previous month, has been the focal point of his rehabilitation efforts. Samukonga shared, "Doctors have assessed my injury and have given me a clean bill of health. However, the decision to participate in the World Championship ultimately rests with me. I have relinquished control to a higher power, and whether I compete in Hungary is now in God's hands." Further insights were provided by Mung'ambata, confirming that two doctors situated in Germany meticulously reviewed Samukonga's injury, asserting that the wound has successfully healed. The doctors' counsel highlighted the importance of deferring Samukonga's track return until he undergoes a comprehensive assessment by a qualified medical practitioner. As the countdown to the World Athletics Championships persists, the fate of Muzala Samukonga remains uncertain, reflective of an athlete's journey that intertwines medical expertise and faith.
