Minister of Education Douglas Syakalima emphasises that sports will play a crucial role in shaping children's minds and involving them in innovative pursuits that pave the way for sustainable livelihoods. The Ministry of Education remains committed to backing school sports due to its paramount significance in the government's youth-oriented approach. "Educating our children holds immense significance, particularly in this era of advanced technology. Therefore, sports will serve as a pivotal instrument for moulding our children's perspectives, engaging them in forward-thinking initiatives, and enabling them to secure respectable livelihoods," remarked Syakalima during the inauguration of this year's inter-provincial ball games in Livingstone on Saturday. These sporting events, organized by the Zambia Schools Sports Association (ZASSA), have drawn participation from pupils across the nation, offering them a platform to interact, compete, and ultimately nurture their talents, according to the minister. Syakalima further underscored that students who participate in sports activities not only enhance their physical fitness and well-being but also contribute to the government's drive to bolster the economy. The presence of officials like Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) President Chileshe Bweupe, youth coach Tom Chaloba, and Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) Technical Committee Member Patrick Phiri at the opening ceremony showcased the significant support for this transformative initiative.
