The Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts is taking proactive measures to reduce wasteful expenditure and streamline daily operations by embracing smart technology. In pursuit of this goal, the ministry has organized its first ICT training workshop for senior management officers. The objective is to ensure that all department heads, unit heads, and senior government officials can effectively utilize the available e-services on the government-wide area network (GWAN). Speaking on behalf of the ministry, Mr. Kangwa Chileshe, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Arts, emphasized the importance of building capacity in using the government shared services platform where the systems reside. He stressed the need for upskilling and empowering all users to not only utilize the available tools but also have the confidence to innovate and bring about positive change in their day-to-day operations. One of the key benefits anticipated from the adoption of technology is the reduction in paper and file usage, resulting in decreased expenditure and the ability to allocate resources to other areas of need. The government, through the Smart Zambia Institute's Electronic Government Division, is committed to creating an enabling environment for Zambia to become a prosperous middle-income nation by 2030 through enhanced value addition. Ms. Miriam Musama Katongo, the Principal ICT Officer of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, acknowledged the efforts of Smart Zambia in elevating the government's ICT profile and enhancing digital infrastructure. While the implementation of sophisticated software and the establishment of a state-of-the-art data center have been notable achievements, Ms. Katongo highlighted the need for a holistic digital transformation. She urged the workshop participants to take action by implementing the knowledge gained and appreciating the benefits of modern technology. The workshop, which commenced on July 7th and is attended by Permanent Secretary Mr. Fumba Chama, Mr. Kangwa Chileshe, and other senior ministry officers, concluded on July 9th, 2023, in Lusaka. This initiative marks a significant step forward in the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts' journey towards becoming a technologically advanced and efficient institution.
