During the 9th Session of the UNESCO Conference of Parties (COP 9) to the International Convention against Doping in Sport, held at UNESCO's headquarters in France, Zambia has been re-elected to serve on the Approval Committee of the Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport for the 2024-2025 term. Leading a three-member delegation to COP9, Kangwa Chileshe, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sport, and Arts, regards this re-election as a momentous accomplishment for Zambia, exemplifying the trust that the African continent has placed in Zambia's leadership under President Hakainde Hichilema. Chileshe affirms the confidence that international bodies such as UNESCO place in Zambia's expertise. In a statement from the Zambian Embassy in Paris, Chileshe states that this re-election reaffirms Zambia's dedication to providing leadership to fellow African nations through collaborative efforts to combat doping in sports. Zambia plans to reinforce its anti-doping initiatives by developing additional funding proposals and advocating for other African countries to strengthen their progress in establishing independent national anti-doping organizations. The Permanent Secretary extends his gratitude to Member States for their overwhelming support and acknowledges President Hichilema and Minister of Youth, Sport, and Arts, Elvis Nkandu, for the opportunity to represent the nation on the global stage. The Fund for the Elimination of Doping in Sport assists States Parties in the International Convention against Doping in Sport in creating and executing anti-doping projects to protect the values, ethics, and integrity of sports.
