Today is the last day of the national team selection trials at Billards Café in Lusaka with over 50 Participants decided across 5 provinces of Zambia. The national trials have attracted Lusaka, Southern, Eastern, Copperbelt, and Central Province with Southern dominating all Provinces outside Lusaka with about 16 total Participants with one player who joined the trials today. In an interview with Zed Sport this afternoon, ZPU General Secretary Tesfa Shinkombwe said that the games have begun so well with a good turnout of Participants across the provinces. "We are in shock that the numbers are good, bringing all these people in one place is something that we are proud of as a union," Mr. Tesfa has disclosed. Mr. Shinkombwe further added that the trials will act as a Preparation tool for the incoming national pool Championships which are starting soon with the best 12 players who will represent Zambia in South Africa where the country will defend its title. "The final squad Will comprise 12 players, but today we will get about 20 -25 players who will qualify for the next stage," He said. Lusaka being the host of the trials, has over 20 Participants who are taking part in the tournament with the majority hoping to qualify as well. Later this year, Pool national championships are set to take place in August and remain one of the biggest tournaments in the country for all local players. Meanwhile, Mr. Tesfa has disclosed to our media team that South Africa will be hosting the Pool Africa Cup of Nations where Zambia will be defending its title. The national pool trials are still underway as teams await to qualify for the next stage today. "It would have been nice to see almost all the provinces coming through but it's good that we have a majority presentation so far," Tesfa adds.
