16th May 2023, Musonda Kirby who is also Zambia Pool Union Media Director will be today starting his first Series of matches for the long-awaited started Artistic Pool Championship which is being held in South Africa. Musonda is among 10 players that have been selected to take part in the competitive Artistic Pool South Africa Championship and is ready to do his best to make a good reputation. The championship opens today at the Gold Reef City and runs until 18th May 2023 with various Participants geared up for the challenge. Musonda who has been training in readiness for the event says he is ready for the tournament and has vowed to put in his level best. Kirby had said that is aware of the big names taking part in the event but will however focus on his assignment at the tournament. The Luanshya-based official and player say being one of the very first players in history to ever compete in an official WPA-recognized Artistic Pool event on African soil, is such an honor to lift Zambia's flag high. “I am setting precedence. In the future, I hope Zambia can also have an active Artistic Division Pool so that future tournaments can produce more players to compete,” Musonda said. In an interview with the media, Musonda further disclosed that the event will present an opportunity to prepare for future stars who can battle at the international level. The other players, all South Africans, include Jason Theron, Kyle Akaloo, Aden Joseph, Lenyuktha Chetty, and Zaffar Kassim. Others that made the cut are Jamiel Jacobs, Wayne Parker, Ashraaf Haribhai, and Mario October. Musonda said he is excited to be the only player from outside South Africa to take part in the event. Sponsors of the tournament are McDermott Cues, Gospel Trick Shot Ministries, Dr. Cue Promotions, Brian "Superman" Pauley, the Cue Coach, Andy Cloth, Basil Billiards, and Cerebro. The winner of the tournament will pocket R10,000, a trophy, and a medal while the runners-up will walk away with R5,000 a trophy, and a medal. The 3rd place winner will take R3,000, a trophy, and a medal while the 4th will pocket R2,000. 5th -8th winners will receive R1,000 each, while those finishing 9th -12th will each get R500.
