In an encouraging development, Stanley Mutoya, the Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) Region Five, has expressed his admiration for the relentless efforts of the management at OYDC Zambia Sports Development Centre in maintaining the facility. Mutoya emphasised that Region Five aspires to elevate OYDC into a centre of excellence, specialising in swimming, judo, athletics, and boxing. He affirmed the AUSC's dedication to exploring avenues for enhancing the facility, positioning it to effectively compete with other regional and global sports centres. During his recent tour of the sports centre, Mutoya and his team scrutinised various areas, including hockey, swimming, judo, basketball, boxing, and the multipurpose hall. They were deeply impressed by the dedication and diligence exhibited in maintaining and operating the facility. Mutoya remarked, "It is our initial view that we can easily make this venue a centre of excellence for swimming, athletics, judo, and boxing." Additionally, he highlighted the necessity of diversification, recognising the centre's potential to provide athletes with management services and biometric capabilities, among other amenities. Mwange Kampamba, the Programmes Manager at OYDC Zambia, affirmed their commitment to fostering excellence in sports and expressed their readiness to embrace various initiatives aimed at further enhancing the centre's capabilities. The collaborative efforts between AUSC Region Five and OYDC Zambia promise a brighter future for sports development in the region.
