Marlise Findlay showcased a determined performance as she claimed victory in her heat during the 50 meters backstroke event at the World Junior Aquatics Championship. However, despite her spirited effort, it was not enough to secure her a spot in the semi-finals. Findlay clocked an admirable time of 32.98 seconds at the Wingate Institute Olympic Swimming Pool in Netanya, Israel. Unfortunately, the qualifying time for the semi-finals stood at 29.41 seconds. Nevertheless, Findlay expressed her satisfaction with her performance, recognizing the challenges of the race. "I think I did my best today. It was not an easy race, and to come out number one, that makes it a big thing, though I have not made it to the semi-finals, which I would have liked to compete in. I will keep working hard and try to do better in my next race tomorrow," she narrated. Findlay is set to participate in the 50m freestyle event today, where her personal best stands at 29.01 seconds. In a separate event, Frank Mulenga posted a time of 28.17 seconds in the 50m butterfly, finishing sixth. The qualification requirement for this event was set at 24.64 seconds. On the previous day, Mulenga competed in heat four of the 50m freestyle, concluding in ninth place with a time of 25.28 seconds. Unfortunately, this performance did not advance him to the next round, as the qualification standard was 23.18 seconds. Mulenga, along with Zach Moyo, Cole Mulenga, and Antonia Liacopoulous, will take to the pool today for the 100m freestyle event.
