Zambia has secured a quarter-final spot in the Olympic Qualifiers held at Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe after day one. This serves as a qualifier for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The victor of the competition will gain automatic qualification, while the second and third-placed teams will compete in intercontinental qualifiers. In the initial matches of Pool C, Zimbabwe tied 12-12 with Burkina Faso, and Uganda triumphed over Algeria with a score of 45-7. Meanwhile, in Pool B, Zambia beat Namibia 31-12, and Kenya outperformed Nigeria with a score of 34-10. In Pool A, Madagascar dominated Tunisia 43-5, and South Africa blanked Ivory Coast 39-0. Zimbabwe continued to impress in Pool C, defeating Algeria 47-5, and Uganda secured a win against Burkina Faso with a score of 36-19. In Pool B, Zambia continued their strong performance, beating Nigeria 38-12, and Kenya demolished Namibia with a score of 50-0. In Pool A, Madagascar won 40-5 against Ivory Coast, and South Africa also dominated Tunisia with a score of 43-0. Burkina Faso defeated Algeria 41-7 in Pool C, and Namibia narrowly lost to Nigeria with a score of 19-22. Kenya continued their success in Pool B with a 38-12 victory over Zambia, and Tunisia fell to Ivory Coast with a score of 33-5. South Africa defeated Madagascar 38-14 in Pool A, and Zimbabwe concluded the day with a 35-5 win over Uganda in Pool C. Looking ahead to Day 2, Sunday, 17th September 2023, the Cup Quarters are set to kick off. The fixtures include QF1 with Kenya facing Burkina Faso at 10:00Hrs, QF2 featuring Zimbabwe against Madagascar at 10:22Hrs, QF3 where Zambia takes on Uganda at 10:44Hrs, and QF4 with South Africa battling Nigeria at 11:06Hrs.
