The Zambia Basketball Federation (ZBF) has identified lack of preparation and financial constraints as the primary causes of Zambian clubs' struggles in continental competitions. The General Secretary of ZBF, Roderick Ndhlovu, made these remarks following Munali Suns' failure to secure a spot in the Basketball Africa League Elite 16. During the qualifiers held in Botswana, Munali Suns, representing Zambia, suffered an 87-50 defeat to the Zimbabwean team JBC, resulting in a third-place finish in Group D and missing out on qualification. Ndhlovu emphasised that the inability of Zambian clubs to qualify for these tournaments deprives the country of opportunities to showcase its players to scouts from top global basketball leagues. He underlined the urgency of addressing challenges such as inadequate preparations and financial limitations. It is worth noting that since the inception of the Basketball Africa League (BAL) in 2019, no Zambian club has managed to reach the Elite 16.
