Zambia Athletics assistant coach Keziaus Nyendwa said he was not disappointed by the performance of his athletes at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago. Coach Nyendwa further stated that the late preparations contributed to the underperformance of his athletes, but he promised to continue training them hard for future games. "The performance that Zambia put up was average because two of the athletes representing the country in athletics qualified for the finals, and we did not win any medals. For me, that was an average performance," he said. The coach also mentioned that there was little or inadequate preparation for the Trinidad and Tobago games, which contributed to the underperformance. He cited a lack of funds and resources as reasons why they were unable to camp for the necessary time.
