Zambia's rugby enthusiasts are voicing their concerns about the state of the sport. The recent performance of Zambia Rugby 7s at the Zambezi 7 Challenge disappointed fans, with both Zambia 1 and Zambia 2 winning only one of their three games. This has sparked discussions about player selection and playing style. "Reflecting on the trends from the recent Zambezi challenge, it's clear that we've gone off course. Young rugby players invest significant effort to reach the national team, and many dedicated coaches, like myself, work with these promising talents. It's essential to encourage both senior and young players for a smoother transition. We must avoid undermining the sport we love," a member of Planet Rugby said. Another fan pointed out, "Some selected players have potential but aren't prepared for international games, struggling under the pressure. We should implement a player graduation system, involving Zambia 7s, Zambia Select, and Zambia Development teams. It took years to reach our current level, and we've left out players who can handle the game's pressure." To enhance the game, a suggestion has been made to "shift away from a 15s mindset" in rugby 7s, emphasizing speed and experience over physicality. Let's adjust our strategy to leverage our strengths effectively.
