27th May 2023, saw a meeting of giants for a Military Rugby Derby involving Red Arrows and Kitwe playing fields. After the match, Rugby Union received complaints that match Officials were abused on the pretext of having misunderstandings during, and after the match. Zambia Rugby Union (ZRU) has therefore temporarily suspended Kitwe Playing Fields (KPF) coach Lawrence Njovu and three players, among them Steven Mwansa, of Green Eagles, from all rugby-related activities for allegedly abusing match officials during Week Eight matches. According to a statement issued yesterday by ZRU vice- president Jeremiah Manda, on Saturday, 27 May 2023," the statement read in part. The KPF trio are alleged to have abused referee Richard Chipanda at Leopards' Cage in Mufulira. KPF lost 32-18 to Leopards in a National Rugby League Week Eight encounter. Mwansa, who was not named in the Eagles match-day squad, is also believed to have assaulted referee Isaac Mulula after the Kabwe outfit lost 33-3 at home to champions Arrows.
