Mufulira Leopards emerged victorious in their Week 13 clash against Lusaka Power House, solidifying their position as frontrunners in the National Rugby League (NRL). With this triumph, the Leopards claimed the league leadership on Saturday, 8th July 2023. The team now stands tied with reigning champions Red Arrows, boasting 41 points. However, Mufulira Leopards hold a superior goal aggregate, having scored 227 times and conceded 121. In comparison, Red Arrows have netted 210 goals while allowing 117. In the lead-up to Week 13 fixtures, the Leopards trailed the Air Wolves by just one point. Yet, they managed to conquer Lusaka Rugby Club, securing a bonus point and ascending to the top of the standings. Under the guidance of coach Willis Magasa, Mufulira Leopards showcased their prowess, scoring five tries courtesy of Daniel Kunda, Rodgers Mukupa, Chaoneka Chipili, Zaninge Mtonga, and Ivwananji Siame. Tendai Cedric contributed with a brace of penalties and conversions. In another exciting match, Red Arrows took a significant step towards defending their title by prevailing over the Green Buffaloes with a scoreline of 25-17. This enthralling defense force derby took place in an early kick-off at the Lusaka Rugby Club. Nonetheless, the Arrows' regret lies in their failure to secure a bonus point. Both Mufulira Leopards and Red Arrows have two more matches remaining in the season. Meanwhile, the Buffaloes currently occupy the third spot in the league standings with 30 points.
