Harare, October 14-15, 2023 - The Zambia women's Sevens team is gearing up to take on formidable opponents in South Africa and Kenya in the Paris 2024 Olympics Games qualifiers tournament. This highly anticipated event, organized by Africa Rugby, will provide an opportunity for teams to secure their place in the final qualifying round. South Africa's Blitzboks and Kenya, renowned contenders in the HSBC World Sevens Series, will undoubtedly present a tough challenge for Zambia. However, the Zambian squad is determined to showcase their skills and secure a spot in the final qualifier. Joining Zambia, South Africa, and Kenya in the quest for Olympic qualification are Algeria, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, and Nigeria. The Africa Rugby social media announcement of the participating teams conveyed excitement, declaring, "Are you ready to watch the biggest Rugby 7s competition on the African continent? African players are among the best in the world. This competition will be unique." The top two teams from the qualifiers will advance to the final Olympic qualifiers in June 2024. This global event will attract teams from other continents, including Oceania, Asia, and America. Already, Brazil, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and France have secured their qualification for the Olympic Games. Under the guidance of coach Musonda Kamisa, the Zambian Sevens team is eager to make history by competing in the Olympic Games. While they have previously participated in the Commonwealth Games in 2018 and 2022, the Olympics remain uncharted territory for them. In addition to the women's team, Zambia's women's Sevens team is also in contention for Olympic qualification. They recently emerged victorious in the pre-qualifiers tournament held in Lusaka earlier this month, further bolstering Zambia's hopes for representation at the Games. The final Olympic qualifiers are scheduled to take place in Tunisia in October, providing one last opportunity for teams to secure their place on the world stage.
