In a thrilling showdown at the Zamsure Sports Complex in Lusaka, Green Buffaloes emerged triumphant, clinching a hard-fought victory of 83-74 over Matero Magic, the fourth-placed team. With this win, Green Buffaloes claimed the top spot on the Midlands Basketball Association League standings. With 19 points to their name, Green Buffaloes solidified their position at the league's summit, edging past the second-placed Munali Suns, Napsa Hurricanes, and Matero Magic by a single point. The game unfolded with high intensity, as Mike Banda and Thomas Mabaso's impressive performances fueled the Green Buffaloes' momentum. They gained an early lead, securing a 20-18 advantage in the first quarter. As the game progressed, the second quarter turned into a closely contested affair, but Green Buffaloes maintained their edge, finishing the quarter with a score of 35-30. Matero Magic showed resilience in the third quarter, with Spocian Ngoma, Choongo Choona, Augustine Kandulu, and David Musonda contributing crucial points for the ten-time national champions. Despite this resurgence, Green Buffaloes maintained their slim lead, heading into the final quarter with a score of 60-58. The collective efforts of Spocian Ngoma and Augustine Kandulu for Matero Magic in the final quarter were commendable, but ultimately not enough to overcome Green Buffaloes, who secured an 81-73 victory. Green Buffaloes' coach, Isaiah Kambidima, expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance and the victory, particularly against a formidable opponent like Matero Magic. "Magic are not an easy team to beat," Kambidima acknowledged. "The way we played was impressive, and I am very happy that we have gone top of the league table. We will continue working hard to maintain our winning streak," he added. For Matero Magic's coach, David Musonda, the loss was a disappointment that required introspection. In other league matches, Hurricanes secured an impressive 89-59 victory over Bulldogs, enabling them to leapfrog Matero Magic into the third position. Additionally, Red Arrows triumphed over Hawks with a score of 60-57, asserting their dominance as the fifth-placed team. Unfortunately, due to a damaged net at the National Sports Development Center in Lusaka, the games involving Suns and Huskies, as well as University of Zambia Pacers against Matero Warriors, were not played as scheduled.
