Diana Chikotesha made history by becoming the first female Zambian to officiate at men's AFCON as assistant referee last night in Ivory Coast. Chikotesha, who had already made waves by officiating at the 2023 Women's World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, took her place as the second assistant referee for the highly anticipated Group C clash between defending champions Senegal and Cameroon. The match saw Senegal emerge victorious with a 3-1 scoreline. Speaking to ZNBC's Matimba Nkonje after the match in San Pedro, Côte d'Ivoire, Chikotesha couldn't contain her excitement, describing her achievement as "a breaking moment in a men-dominated sport" and a "dream come true." She promised to continue working hard be a flag Carrier for the nation. "Officiating at the AFCON is a big and inspiring moment. I will keep working hard to continue lifting the Zambian flag high and be an inspiration to the girl child." Photo - Courtesy
