Sports Minister Elvis Nkandu has pledged the Ministry of Sports' support in assisting the Zambia Cricket Union (ZCU) to regain its status with the International Cricket Council (ICC). He emphasized the importance of appointing leaders within the union who are genuinely passionate about cricket, rather than individuals driven by selfish interests. The ZCU faced an ICC ban in 2020 due to concerns related to transparency and the mishandling of funds. Minister Nkandu made these remarks during the closing ceremony of the Midlands Cricket Association Quadrangular Tournament held at the Metropolitan Sports Club. He expressed his commitment to facilitating the ZCU's reintegration into the ICC. Zubera Patel, the Interim Committee President of the ZCU, expressed her satisfaction with the Ministry of Sports' dedication to helping cricket regain its ICC status, highlighting a positive outlook for the future of the sport in Zambia.
