The Ministry of Sports has urged the Zambia Cricket Union to choose leaders who have a genuine passion for cricket, rather than those with selfish interests, in order to have the International Cricket Council ban lifted. In 2020, the International Cricket Council banned the Zambia Cricket Union from all cricket activities due to a lack of transparency and misappropriation of funds. Hon. Elvis Nkandu has urged the Zambia Cricket Union to work with the National Sports Council in order to address the issues that led to the ICC banning Zambia from participating in their competitions. "The high levels of skill and discipline displayed during this tournament provide me, as Minister of Sports, with enough motivation to ensure that my office offers you all the relevant support necessary to make cricket a sport that is practiced nationwide."
