22nd May 2023, the Government of Zambia has given golfer Sydney Wemba, a diplomatic passport following his impressive performance at the Just-ended Zanaco Masters Golf Championship, where he scored six under par 282. Wemba has also been named Zanaco Bank Plc flag-carrier, with the financial institution expected to financially support him in his endeavors. Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) president Greg Lubesha, who announced the diplomatic status Wemba has been accorded said that the union has been lobbying in the background with and Zanaco to honor the golfer. This is the first time Government's own Zambian has gone to this level, finishing on minus six in a competitive tournament. "We had a chat with ZANACO chief executive officer (CEO) and we had lobbied that Wemba be a flag carrier for Zanaco and should be supported in any financial way moving forward," Greg said. "Going further, we have also convinced the Minister of Youth. Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu, and he has guided us that the Government is giving him a diplomatic passport," He further disclosed. Gred has therefore thanked the Government and co-sponsors for ensuring the tournament was successfully hosted and that the tournament received the needed support.
