Zimbabwean Robson Chinhoi yesterday defied the odds to win the R400,000 (about K340,000) Zanaco Masters Championship after beating South African Neil Schietekat in the playoffs, with President Hakainde Hichilema saying that the Government has prioritized the development of sports infrastructure and tourism. In a speech read on his behalf by Minister of Youth, Sport and Arts Elvis Nkandu during the prize-giving ceremony in Zambia, said that sport has potential for employment opportunities for youths. President applauded Lusaka Golf Club and Zambia Golf Union (ZGU) for the successful hosting of the tournament which was one of its kind. "We are also eager to promote our country's sports sector as we have much to offer in the form of investment and tourism. I am particularly pleased to see that this tournament has provided us an opportunity to promote some of the tourist attractions that our great country Zambia has to offer," the President said. "I am pleased to learn that part of the proceeds from this tournament will go towards developing the junior golf programs so that in the not-too-distant future," He added. The duo tied 17 under par 271 after the final round, they had to go back to the course for a tiebreaker. Chinhoi emerged stronger on points after a tiebreaker to become the first black man to win a Sunshine Tour-sanctioned championship in Zambia. The title comes after his third attempt in the Zanaco Masters against Schietekat who is currently ranked first on the Sunshine Tour with order of merit. "I feel so grateful to win the Zanaco Masters. I don't have much to say but to just thank God for giving me the strength to go through the week, Zambian people for the support, sponsors, and the Tour." Chinhoi said.
